In-Presence-Workshop: Advanced Crystal Structure Determination
The 1st Munich Crystallography Workshop successfully took place at the TUM Catalysis Research Center from August 7-10, 2023. The event featured an intense program of seminars, hands-on and poster sessions for 50 international students and researchers.
Participants had the opportunity to present their individual challenges and interact with experts to get suggestions on how to proceed. In fact, many problems were solved directly during the workshop. On top of that, everyone had the chance to test different software for data reduction and structure refinement, in particular for difficult cases involving twinning or disorder.
A big shout out to our sponsors, who made the event affordable to participate in, therefore helping the community and enabling young researchers to network and progress. We are grateful for their support.
The organizers would like to thank all participants for their contributions to the success of the 1st Munich Crystallography Workshop. We are happy about the overall positive resonance and look forward to the next planned MCW in 2025.
Topics:
- Crystal structure refinement using different state-of-the-art software (Olex2, ShelXle)
- Data integration and correction using different state-of-the-art software (Apex4, Crysalis Pro, X-Area)
- Integration and refinement of twinned data
- New refinement methods beyond the independent atom model (IAM)
- Poster session: "Bring your problem structure"
Target group:
The workshop is aimed at graduate students, postdocs and scientists with an existing basic knowlegde on single-crystal XRD who are eager to learn more about state-of-the-art crystal structure data treatment and refinement.
